Tension at NTA Birnin Kebbi as staff decry welfare conditions

Unrest is mounting at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Birnin Kebbi station, where employees have accused the newly deployed General Manager, Ali Garba, of sidelining staff welfare and subjecting workers to unfair treatment.

Several members of staff, who requested anonymity, alleged that allowances released by NTA headquarters for special outside broadcasts and official assignments are being drastically reduced. According to them, workers now receive between ₦1,000 and ₦2,000 for such duties.

The aggrieved employees claimed that the alleged cuts have had serious consequences. They cited an incident at the recently concluded fishing festival, where a staff member reportedly collapsed while on duty.

Rather than being taken to a hospital for proper medical attention, the worker was allegedly rushed to a patent medicine store in what colleagues described as a cost-saving measure.

Staff members warned that persistent neglect of their welfare could pose risks to their health and safety, especially during demanding field assignments.

They called on the NTA national headquarters to urgently step in and address the situation before it escalates further.

Expressing frustration, one employee said, “We give our best to the station, but our welfare is ignored. If this continues, it will affect both morale and productivity.”

The development has stirred widespread dissatisfaction within the station, with many workers insisting that swift intervention is necessary to rebuild trust and ensure fair treatment of staff.
