BREAKING NEWS: Tinubu Nominates New CEOs for NMDPRA, NUPRC After Farouk Ahmed, Komolafe Resign
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated new chief executives for Nigeria’s petroleum regulatory agencies following the resignation of their heads.
In a letter sent to the Senate on Tuesday, the President requested the expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
The nominations come after the resignation of Engineer Farouk Ahmed, former CEO of NMDPRA, and Gbenga Komolafe, former CEO of NUPRC. Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
Eyesan, an Economics graduate of the University of Benin, has nearly 33 years of experience in the oil and gas sector. She retired as Executive Vice President, Upstream at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and previously served as Group General Manager, Corporate Planning and Strategy.
Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed, a Chemical Engineering graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, has held several key positions in the sector, including Managing Director of Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company and Nigerian Gas Company. He also served as Group Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer, Gas & Power Directorate, where he played key roles in major national gas projects such as the AKK Gas Pipeline.
If confirmed, the nominees are expected to strengthen the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act and deepen reforms in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
