The House of Representatives will, on Wednesday and Thursday, vote on a wide range of constitution amendment bills as lawmakers push to fast-track the ongoing review process and conclude it before the end of 2025.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu announced the scheduled vote during Tuesday’s plenary, urging members to be present for what he described as a decisive phase in the constitutional reform exercise.

Kalu, who chairs the Constitution Review Committee, said the vote marks a “significant milestone” in efforts to finalise the long-standing amendments that have gone through nationwide consultations and committee scrutiny.

Findings indicate that the House and Senate have already reached consensus on about 44 of the more than 60 proposals raised during the zonal public hearings held across the country.

Key items expected to be decided during the two-day vote include special seats for women, the creation of state police, proposals for new states, reforms on indigeneship, and several electoral amendment bills.
