Oborevwori,Sobotie,Adebayo, Aniagwu,Oyibode, Andaye bags NUJ Delta Council's award

The Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ Delta State Council on Thursday conferred on the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Elder Omeni Sobotie, renowned Journalist, Asiwaju Shola Adebayo, the Commissioner for Information, Ehiedu Charles Aniagwu, the Vice Chancellor, University of Delta, Agbor, Prof.(Mrs.) Stella Chinyere Chiemeka, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode and Hon. Dagidi Rollins Andaye, Udu and Bomadi Local Government Council men respectively for their positive contribution to the aggressive and rapid development of the State.

The award was presented by the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhasan Yahya to the Governor at the grand finale of the 2025 NUJ Press week and lecture series held at Asaba.

The event drew media professionals, government officials and stakeholders across the State. The theme of the press week was, "Tax regimes and exchange rate unification: Economic implications and the media's strategic time".

Delta State NUJ Council Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe said the awardees were carefully selected based on verifiable performances, transparency and their administration's support for press freedom as well as responsible journalism. 

In an acceptance speech, Governor Oborevwori who was represented by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ehiedu Charles Aniagwu appreciated the Union for the honour done him. He said by professional calling, Journalists hold the government to account and scrutinize them. According to him, that the NUJ will confers him with the award shows that his government is on the right path and all his developmental strides are applauded. 

Asiwaju Shola Adebayo said the award will spur him to do more for the union as he thanked the union for the honour done him.

Also in his acceptance speech,the Udu Local Government Council Chairman, Olorogun Oyibode expressed gratitude for the recognizing these developmental strides ongoing in Udu Local Area. He reaffirmed his administration's readiness to deepen collaboration with Journalists in promoting accountability and community growth. He dedicated the award the youths of Udu Local Government Area who according to him have decided to shun cult clashes and other activities. He said before his emergence as chairman,there had been series of cult clashes but they have dropped it for peace in the area.

On his part, the Bomadi Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Dagidi Rollins Andaye dedicated the award to the people of Bomadi saying the award will motivate him to sustain and expand the development projects currently underway in his domain. 

The 2025 Press Week featured lectures Nigeria's evolving economic landscape particularly the impact of tax reforms and exchange rate unification on citizens, businesses and the role of the media in shaping public understanding.

The ceremony ended with renewed calls for stronger partnership between government institutions and Journalists to advance transparency and development across Delta State.
