Delta Police Nab Suspect, Recover Gun Hidden Inside Loaf of Bread

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

According to the statement, the suspect, Nnamdi Stanley Chibuike, a resident of Ogbeowele Quarters, behind General Hospital, Asaba, was apprehended at about 8:45 a.m. on November 6 by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) stationed at the Koka Roundabout checkpoint.

Edafe said the officers became suspicious after observing Chibuike’s uneasy behavior and decided to conduct a thorough search.

“During the search, the operatives discovered a fabricated Beretta pistol neatly concealed inside a loaf of bread,” the police spokesperson said.

The suspect was immediately arrested, while the recovered weapon has been taken into custody as an exhibit.

A police source at the scene, who spoke anonymously, described the moment as “straight out of a movie.”

“The officers almost let him go until one of them noticed he was clutching the bread too tightly. When they checked it, everyone was shocked to see the pistol wrapped inside,” the source recounted.

Another eyewitness, Mrs. Esther Oghene, a trader at the Koka junction, said the discovery drew a small crowd of stunned passersby.

“People couldn’t believe it. How can someone hide a gun inside bread? We thank God the police caught him before anything bad happened,” she said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda*, commended the RRS team for their alertness and professionalism, describing the arrest as a “testament to the Command’s commitment to proactive and intelligence-led policing.”

“No matter how criminals attempt to disguise their weapons or activities, our officers will continue to identify, arrest, and bring them to justice,” CP Abaniwonda stated.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or persons to the nearest police station, assuring that all information provided would be treated with utmost confidentiality.

The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its determination to maintain peace and security across the state through sustained intelligence gathering and swift operational response.
