Oborevwori honoured with outstanding PGF leadership award

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been conferred with the outstanding leadership award for excellence in governance by the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), in recognition of his humility, visionary leadership, and transformative achievements in Delta State.

The award was presented on Thursday during the PGF Quarterly Strategy Meeting of Secretaries to the Governments (SSGs) of APC-governed states, held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba. The meeting, themed “Strengthening Subnational Governance Synergy for Effective Policy Coordination in APC-Governed States,” brought together SSGs and senior government officials to deepen administrative collaboration and promote governance reforms across the country.

Presenting the award to Governor Oborevwori, who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, the Director-General of the PGF, Mr. Folorunsho Aluko, described him as a beacon of humility, progress, and excellence in governance. Aluko commended the Delta State governor for redefining public service through accessibility, empathy, and disciplined leadership.

He said the administration’s commitment to infrastructural renewal, youth inclusion, and transparent governance had set a new standard of progress and purpose in public office. According to him, “Beyond the projects that dot Delta’s landscape, what stands out is your humility of heart, accessibility, and genuine passion for the people.”

Aluko further noted that the Asaba meeting symbolized the renewed energy of cooperative federalism, emphasizing that the SSGs of APC states were not merely administrators but architects of coherence and custodians of purpose in implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that the tribute to Governor Oborevwori was not only a recognition of personal excellence but also a call to collective progress, stressing that history rarely rewards those who merely occupy offices but celebrates those who build systems that outlive them.

In his remarks, Governor Oborevwori, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, expressed deep appreciation to the PGF SSGs for the honour, describing it as a motivation to continue delivering good governance to the people of Delta State. He said his administration was delighted to host such an important convergence that drives the engine of governance and strengthens service delivery.

Oborevwori stated that his MORE Agenda for meaningful development, opportunities for all, realistic teforms, and enhanced peace and security was in full alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government. He also highlighted major milestones under the MORE Agenda, including the reconstruction of the Warri–Sapele–Benin Dual Carriageway and the ongoing flyover projects at Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli and Uromi Junction in Agbor, all designed to accelerate infrastructure and economic growth.

In his welcome address, the Secretary to the Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, said the State’s participation in the PGF family had deepened intergovernmental collaboration and broadened learning opportunities among state leaders. Emu noted that the MORE Agenda aligns seamlessly with the Renewed Hope Agenda and that the partnership continues to yield transformative outcomes.

Also speaking, the Chairperson of the Forum and Secretary to the Kogi State Government, Dr. Folashade Ayoade, commended the Delta State Government for its hospitality and organizational excellence in hosting the forum, describing the Asaba edition as one of the most productive sessions so far.

The Asaba meeting concluded with a renewed commitment among APC-governed states to strengthen subnational systems, digitize governance processes, and institutionalize performance-based management frameworks across the federation.
