Tinubu in Rome for High-Level Talks on Terrorism and Regional Peace

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is attending the Aqaba Process Meeting of Heads of State and Government currently holding in Rome, Italy, as part of global efforts to strengthen international cooperation against terrorism and violent extremism.

A video released on Wednesday showed the president departing his hotel in Rome for the high-level summit, which brings together world leaders to discuss strategies to counter terrorism, transnational crime, and violent extremism, particularly in West Africa and the Sahel region.

According to the Presidency, President Tinubu’s participation underscores Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to regional peace and stability, as well as the country’s readiness to collaborate with international partners in addressing emerging global security threats.

The Nigerian leader is also expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit focused on enhancing intelligence sharing, defence cooperation, and counter-terrorism partnerships.

The Aqaba Process, launched in 2015 by Jordan’s King Abdullah II, was designed to strengthen global coordination in the fight against terrorism. This year’s edition is co-chaired by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Italian Government.

The forum serves as a platform for heads of state, security experts, and international organizations to exchange intelligence, assess evolving threats, and develop collaborative frameworks to promote global peace and security.
