Oborevwori, Guwor, Pondi, Others, Felicitate Pere of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri at 10th Coronation Anniversary
It was an array of royalty and colourful display of the rich culture and traditions of the people of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom as dignitaries gathered to celebrate the 10th coronation anniversary of the Pere Ama-Okosu of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Monbene III.
The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, joined traditional rulers, captains of industry, political leaders and indigenes of the kingdom at the historic event held on Thursday, September 26, 2025.
Governor Oborevwori commended the monarch for his unwavering commitment to peaceful coexistence among the Ijaws, Itsekiris and Urhobos in Ogbe-Ijoh, describing him as a true patriot whose leadership had fostered stability and unity in the area.
He noted that the Pere’s swift intervention during the recent Ijaw–Itsekiri crisis restored law and order, underscoring his wisdom and dedication to peace. The governor assured that his administration would continue to work for the good of all Deltans irrespective of tribe, creed or political affiliation.
In his address, the Pere Ama-Okosu expressed gratitude to God, his subjects, and dignitaries for their support over the last decade. Through his spokesperson, Chief Favour Izoukumor, the royal father lauded Governor Oborevwori for his steadfast relationship with the kingdom and for ensuring peace and security.
The monarch, however, appealed for government’s intervention in reopening the Ogbe-Ijoh Health Centre, constructing a concrete landing jetty, sea wall, and resolving long-standing land disputes that have plagued the community.
Speaking further, Chief Izoukumor, who is also the Executive Director of Social Services at DESOPADEC, hailed the monarch’s resilience and called on youths to embrace dialogue rather than violence to allow development to thrive in line with Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E agenda.
Similarly, Chief Oghenekome Okpobor, DESOPADEC’s Executive Director of Finance and Administration, emphasized that peace in host communities remains a priority for the board, pledging continued support for traditional rulers.
Other dignitaries, including High Chief Kestin Pondi, CEO of Tantita Security Services; Chief Boro Opudu, Chairman of the Delta State Waterways Security; and Chief Rita Youghaware, stressed the need for collective efforts to sustain peace, describing unity as the foundation for development.
The highpoint of the weeklong celebration was the conferment of chieftaincy titles on 46 illustrious sons and daughters of Ogbe-Ijoh, presentation of gifts, paying of homage, traditional rites, and cultural displays showcasing the rich heritage of the Ijaw people.
