The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of four suspected kidnappers and members of a notorious armed robbery gang, leading to the recovery of AK-47 rifles and stolen vehicles.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Asaba.

According to him, the command received a distress call that a young man had been kidnapped from his residence in Ogwashi-Uku and whisked into the bush. Despite collecting a ransom of ₦2 million, the kidnappers allegedly shot the victim in the leg for “not having enough money.”

Edafe explained that Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, immediately deployed the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad led by CSP Godwin Osadolor. The operatives stormed the Ogwashi-Uku forest, rescuing the victim with gunshot injuries.

Two suspects, Chukwuebuka Nka and Uche Okechukwu, were later arrested in Anambra State, where the victim’s white Toyota Venza SUV was also recovered. Their confessions reportedly led police to Agidiase village, Ogwashi-Uku, where 18-year-old Somto Chukwuma was arrested. A Toyota Matrix vehicle and a network jammer device were also recovered.

In a separate operation, the command foiled an armed robbery syndicate operating in Ekpan. Acting on intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Labe Joseph, led his team to arrest two suspects, 36-year-old Elvis Ebroghro and 34-year-old Abiola Adegore, who had allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle battery and threatened a community security guard.

Further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, Lucky Ebroghro. During follow-up operations, an AK-47 rifle concealed in an isolated building in Ometan Community and linked to the gang was recovered.

SP Edafe assured residents that the command remains committed to intelligence-driven policing and warned criminal elements that Delta State will not be a safe haven for crime.
