Wike: Nobody Will Blackmail Me from Doing What Is Right

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that no amount of blackmail will stop him from taking decisions he considers right in the interest of Nigerians.

Wike made the remarks on Wednesday during the official flag-off of the construction of Arterial Road N1, linking Wuye District to Ring Road 2 in Abuja.

The minister, who recently returned from vacation, dismissed social media speculations about his health, including rumors of a heart attack.
“While I was away on vacation, I read rumors on social media, saying I was sick, that I had a heart attack. It is my prayer that I will sign their condolences,” Wike said.

Taking a swipe at Nigeria’s political climate, he added:
“In this country, we play politics with everything. This is a country where someone will call Mr. President a criminal and nothing will happen. You’re lucky to have a President that believes in the rule of law.”

Wike further urged Nigerians to align with leaders who can deliver results, stressing: “Follow who knows road; the person is Asiwaju \[President Bola Ahmed Tinubu].”

The N1 Arterial Road project, which is expected to improve connectivity and ease traffic congestion in the capital city, marks another phase of the FCT administration’s infrastructure drive under Wike’s leadership.
