Drama as Delta Commissioners Clash Over Alleged Extravagant Spending at SEC Meeting

A mild drama reportedly unfolded during the Delta State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Asaba when two commissioners engaged in a heated exchange over alleged extravagant spending by the state government.
According to insider sources, the confrontation began after the alleged Dean of Commissioners, Chief Fidelis Tilije, raised concerns about what he described as the “worrisome” pattern of spending on empowerment programmes targeted at political allies. Tilije was quoted as saying that the pace of disbursements to loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was “alarming and unsustainable.”
He was said to have urged his colleagues to advise Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to reconsider such expenditures, arguing that the state’s limited resources should be redirected toward capital projects and initiatives with broader public benefit.
The session, however, took a dramatic turn when the alleged Commissioner for Works, Mr. Reuben Izeze, interrupted, strongly countering Tilije’s claims. Eyewitnesses disclosed that Izeze accused Tilije of misrepresenting the governor’s empowerment initiatives and overstepping his role within the council.
What began as a disagreement quickly escalated into a shouting match, forcing a temporary halt to proceedings. Other council members reportedly intervened to calm tensions and restore order before the meeting continued.
As of press time, neither the Delta State Government nor the two commissioners involved had issued an official statement. Attempts to reach their respective media aides were unsuccessful, fueling speculation about the incident’s full details and implications.
