Breaking News- Brake failure cause multi-bus collision in NPA expressway

A major road accident occurred today, 19th August in the bustling heart of Warri, after a public transit bus crashed into multiple stationary and moving buses during peak morning hours.
Eyewitnesses at the scene described the moment as “sudden and terrifying,” as the out of control bus veered uncontrollably and rammed into at least three other public buses along the NPA Expressway Close To Chevron.
Though the scene was chaotic and several vehicles were visibly damaged including shattered windows, broken side mirrors, and crumpled panels, no fatalities have been reported.
“I saw the bus coming fast-it wasn’t slowing down,” said one bystander, a street vendor who witnessed the collision from the roadside. “It smashed into the side of another bus, then scraped across a few more before coming to a stop.”
Police Offices who were present at the scene before it happened responded swiftly. They assessed several passengers for minor injuries, though no one required hospitalization. Police cordoned off the area to begin preliminary investigations into the cause of the mechanical failure.
Sources within the transport authority confirmed that the bus involved had brake failures, raising concerns about the adequacy and frequency of safety checks for public transportation vehicles.
“This incident could have ended much worse,” said one of passengers involved at the scene. “The fact that no lives were lost is nothing short of a miracle.”
Investigators are expected to examine maintenance records, interview the driver and crew, and assess whether operator negligence or systemic faults contributed to the failure.
This is not the first reported incident involving brake related issues in public buses this year, igniting renewed calls from commuter unions and civil society groups for tighter oversight and improved fleet maintenance.
As authorities continue their probe, commuters are left rattled and demanding answers.
