DESOPADEC TAKES PROACTIVE MEASURES TO MITIGATE FLOODING IN KWALE

The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, has embarked on an ambitious project of de-silting blocked drainage channels in Kwale and Utagba Ogbe as part of its efforts to mitigate the impact of flooding in the area.
This ongoing project was inspected today August 6th, 2025 by the Member representing Ndokwa ethnic nationality on the DESOPADEC Governing Board, Dr. Charles Olisa.
These de-silting jobs being carried out simultaneously at various locations including Udeaka Street, Okpala Ochia Lane, Ofuzor Igwala Lane, Eke Lane, Isumpe Road, Eke Market, and its environs in Utagba Ogbe, Kwale demonstrate DESOPADEC's commitment to responding to the needs of communities within its mandate areas.
The project is expected to have several positive implications for the community. By clearing blocked drainage channels, DESOPADEC aims to minimize flooding incidents and associated damage. The de-silting work will improve drainage and sanitation in the area and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
Additionally, aside from enhancing safety and well-being in the community by reducing the risk of flooding, it is also expected to boost economic activities in the area by reducing the impact of flooding on businesses and trade.
This initiative aligns with the Delta State Government's More Agenda under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori and the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Initiative led by President Bola Tinubu.
DESOPADEC's proactive measure to mitigate flooding is particularly significant given the Nigerian Meteorological Agency's (NIMET) forecast of heavy rainfall and flooding in many States.
