BREAKING: Atiku Abubakar quits PDP, cites 'irreconcilable differences'

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially parted ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), severing ties with the party he co-founded and represented for decades.
Atiku’s resignation was contained in a letter dated Monday, July 14, 2025, addressed to the PDP chairman of Jada 1 Ward in Jada Local Government Area, Adamawa State. The development was made public on Wednesday in a post shared by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, on X (formerly Twitter).
“I am writing to formally resign my membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect,” Atiku wrote, citing a growing disillusionment with the party’s direction.
He described the decision as “heartbreaking,” but noted that the PDP had veered off course from the ideals upon which it was established.
“It is with a heavy heart that I resign, recognising the irreconcilable differences that have emerged.”
Atiku expressed appreciation for the platform the PDP gave him, including two presidential tickets and the opportunity to serve as Nigeria’s Vice President from 1999 to 2007.
“I wish the party and its leadership all the best in the future. Thank you once again for the opportunities and support,” he added.
The resignation marks a major political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections, stirring speculation about Atiku’s next political move.
