25th Anniversary: NDDC Records Significant Achievements, Advancing Infrastructure, Empowering Lives

As an interventionist agency, the management of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC has assured of it's continuous efforts towards making a difference in the lives of those in the region. 

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku gave the assurance on Monday during a world press briefing in Asaba, Delta State capital as part of activities to mark the 25th Anniversary of the NNDC.

Addressing media practitioners from around the world, Dr. Ogbuku spoke on the journey so far of the NDDC and it's track record in the advancement of the Nigeria Delta region in the last 25 years of it's creation as an act of parliament. 

Flanked by the Chairman, Mr Chiedu Ebie, and other members of the board, the MD noted that the commission since it's creation in the year 2000, has carried out various intervention projects and programs geared towards improving the living standards of the people in the region, thereby making a difference.

Highlighting some of the recent achievements of the board following their appointment by President Bola Tinubu in 2023, Dr Ogbuku said the commission completed all abandoned projects such as the Okitipupa electrification project in Ondo South, construction and commission of a 10km Abraka -Benin road, construction of a 7km road in Imo State, Construction of training center in Bayelsa State, 9km Obehia-Oke-Ikpe road in Abia State, 27km Ogbia Nembe road in Bayelsa State, 6km Iko-Atabrikang-Akata- Opulom road and the 600m Ibeno bridge in Akwa Ibom State, amongst other projects in other Niger Delta States.

The MD said said the commission also engaged in Health social welfare intervention, Educational skills development, sustainable energy and security enhancement adding that strategic vision aimed at transiting the NDDC from transaction to transformation which is a paradigm shift that engenders transparency, accountability and inclusive sustainable development. 

Responding to questions from the Journalists, the MD explained that the NNDC has continued to maintain robust partnership with International Oil Companies and the Federal Government stressing that the commission under President Bola Tinubu is duly funded.

He disclosed that the next phase of the Commission under the leadership of the board seeks to focus more on Agriculture, building a reliable database, and ensure the completion of it's legacy projects in the region.

He affirmed the resolved of the Commission's board towards the actualization of President Bola Tinubu's renewed hope agenda in the Niger Delta region and dismissed speculation of running for any political office. 


Earlier, Chairman of the governing board, Mr Chiedu Ebie harped on the need for stakeholders engagement in advancing the course of the NNDC and called for continous partnership by various including the media. 

Meanwhile, the Chairman and leaders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Delta State Chapter presented an award of excellence to the Chairman and Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission for their unwavering commitment to the development of the region.

Present at the Press briefing were board members  representing the nine states of the Niger Delta region including former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Monday Igbuya representing Delta State, State Chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Churchill Oyovwe, Vice Chairman, Comrade Felix Ekwu, Chairman DBS Warri Chapel, Comrade John Glover, Chairperson of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ Delta State, Comrade Sonia Unobunjo and other media actors. 

The event was climaxed with a premier on the movie titled, making a difference.
