The Nigerian team earned its spot on the global stage after Delta State’s students won the national debate championship organized by the President's School Debate Nigeria (PSDN) under the presidency.

The victorious students were led to Qatar by the Chairman of Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), who accompanied the team as they flew the Nigerian flag in one of the world’s most prestigious academic competitions.

The team’s discipline, eloquence, and deep grasp of global issues earned praise from judges and observers throughout the tournament.

Just before their departure, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori hosted the team at the Government House in Asaba, where he prayed with the students and charged them to bring home the trophy.

“You are the pride of Delta and Nigeria. Go and represent us with honour and bring that trophy home,” the Governor had said during the send-off.

The Governor’s encouragement and the state’s ongoing investment in education were credited as major factors behind the students' exceptional performance.

The victory marks a significant milestone for Delta State and Nigeria in the global academic community, spotlighting the intellectual strength and oratory excellence of Nigerian youth.
