BREAKING: Tinubu will be lucky to come third in 2027 — El-Rufai tears into presidency

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has distanced the ongoing political coalition efforts from partisan interests, asserting that the formation of a new political platform is intended to ease rising national tensions rather than promote party realignment.

Speaking in a recent interview, El-Rufai clarified that the coalition has "nothing to do with political parties" and is instead focused on addressing the prevailing challenges facing the country.

“When we supported Tinubu, we were of the opinion that he’d do better than other elected presidents,” El-Rufai stated. He acknowledged that questions surrounding President Bola Tinubu's background including his parentage, educational history, and age had lingered. Yet, he said his personal support for Tinubu had been anchored on the president’s record as a former governor.

“The explanation I held on to as a support system for Tinubu was the way he ruled Lagos in the past,” El-Rufai said.

However, the former governor did not hold back in his critique of the current administration, describing its performance as disappointing.

“God saved me from the embarrassment of being part of this administration,” he said. “The guy is gone and has performed miserably; everything is going wrong. They are raising a lot of revenue, but there is no result to show for it.”

He also criticized the government’s approach to national security, emphasizing the president's responsibility in that regard. “Don’t order the state to guarantee security, fix it as the president,” El-Rufai declared.

In a damning assessment of Tinubu’s political future, he added, “Tinubu’s government has failed woefully. He has no pathway to win, he cannot win, and he will be lucky to come third as it is clear.”

The former governor’s comments come amid growing political agitation and renewed calls for reform, as economic and security challenges continue to strain public confidence in the current administration.
