A traditional Chief and two others have been arraigned at a Magistrate Court on a three count charge bordering on stealing, conspiracy and receiving stolen goods in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The suspects Chief (Mrs.) Rose Akamu, Mr Samson Iborogu, and Mr Dickson Ivie were arraigned by the Delta State Commissioner of Police before Magistrate Onome Esade Esq.

PEBNEWS recalled that over 450 bags of cement belonging to Ughelli North Local Government Area, were allegedly stolen by Mr Samson Iborogu and were bought by Chief (Mrs.) Rose Akamu.

Our source at the Council disclosed that the over 450 bags of cement were bought at the rate of N5,000 by the traditional Chief but her inability to pay for the transportation led to the 'cat been let of the bag'.

A Keke rider reported the theft to the Council Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo Esq which led to the recovery of some bags of cement and moulded blocks.

In suit NO: MU/157c/2025, the suspects were arraigned on a three count charge wherein they pleaded not guilty.

Speaking to newsmen shortly afterwards, prosecuting counsel, Mr Stewart Ogedegbe said, "We are at the preliminary stages now and what happened today was an arraignment of the three suspects in court.

"It is customary for them to be granted bail because it is bailable offence and they have all been granted and we have taken a date for hearing."

According to the Ogedegbe, "It is at the hearing stage that we will know whether they committed the offense or not but what we have done today is arraignment and they have been granted bail.

"If they are able to perfect their bail then they will go home, and if they are unable to perfect their bail they will be going to the correctional centre that is what happened today.

"The two male suspects were arraigned for conspiracy and stealing while the third suspect was arraigned for receiving stolen properties.

"With the evidence that we have on our side, and with the strength of the law, am sure we are going to be victorious." He assured.

The case was adjourned to July 31 ,2025, for hearing as the suspects were granted bail of One million, fifty thousand naira each, and a surety with landed property within the jurisdiction.
