The Delta Central chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held a pivotal strategic meeting on Sunday, marking a significant moment in the evolving political dynamics of Delta State. The gathering, hosted at the country home of Senator Ede Dafinone in Sapele, brought together top party stakeholders to deliberate on the way forward, signal loyalty to the national leadership, and address growing speculation surrounding internal party relationships.

Chaired by Chief Paulinus Akpeki, Delta State APC Vice Chairman and Delta Central Chairman, the high-level meeting featured key resolutions, including a resounding vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and Senator Dafinone.

In a notable turn of events, the meeting also publicly rejected circulating rumors of political rifts within the party hierarchy and called for immediate consolidation and unity.

One of the central messages of the meeting was the party’s intent to present a cohesive and united front, especially as the 2027 general elections draw closer.

Chief Akpeki, in his opening remarks, emphasized the need for discipline and solidarity among members. “The renewed direction of the party requires our full commitment and absolute loyalty,” he said, urging members to embrace ongoing realignments and support the leadership at all levels.

In a significant political declaration, Senator Dafinone confirmed that Governor Oborevwori, following his defection to the APC, is now recognized as the de facto leader of the party in the state. This move, described by Akpeki as a “game-changer,” is expected to redefine political alliances and strategies within Delta’s increasingly competitive political landscape.

Senator Dafinone used the opportunity to provide a detailed account of his work in the National Assembly, including developmental projects across the eight local government areas of Delta Central.

He reassured constituents of his dedication to effective representation and encouraged them to take advantage of federal and state programs accessible through his office.

Addressing growing rumors, the senator firmly denied any alleged feud with former Deputy Senate President Senator Ovie Omo-Agege. “There is no rift between myself and Senator Omo-Agege,” Dafinone stated unequivocally. “We must not allow fabricated narratives to distract us from the serious business of governance and party unity.”

To avoid miscommunication and ensure effective implementation of constituency projects, Dafinone also committed to strengthening collaboration between his office and the local government party structures.

In a symbolic and unanimous gesture, a motion moved by State Financial Secretary Mr. William Deniran and seconded by State Publicity Secretary Valentine Onojeghuo Esq. culminated in a thunderous vote of confidence in President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, and Senator Dafinone.

The motion was seen as a public affirmation of the APC’s internal stability in Delta Central and its readiness to rally behind current leadership of the Party under His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori as preparations begin for the next election cycle.

The meeting also reviewed the ongoing APC membership registration exercise. Mr. Deniran reported that the process was progressing across the senatorial district, with mechanisms in place to address any logistical or technical challenges.

Local government executives in attendance were tasked with ramping up mobilization efforts, aligning local structures with the state leadership’s objectives and promoting broader party engagement in anticipation of upcoming elections.

The impressive turnout at the meeting underscored the growing strength of the APC in Delta Central.

Among those present were several LGA chairmen, secretaries, and state working committee members, including Chief Adelabu Bodjor (Chief of Staff to Senator Dafinone), Chief Digbame Ubu (State Executive Committee), Mudiaga Okorefe (Special Leader), M.K. Okpako (Assistant Legal Adviser), and Famous Oyibo (Central Youth Leader), among others.

Local government leaders such as Mr. Eric Afe (Okpe), Mr. Wilfred Ileleji (Uvwie), and Chief Julius Ogboru (Ethiope East) were also in attendance, further illustrating the district-wide support for the meeting’s outcomes.

The meeting concluded with prayers led by Engr. Isaiah Kekeje, Chairman of Ughelli South LGA, symbolizing both a spiritual and strategic recommitment to party goals.

As the APC in Delta Central recalibrates its strategies under a new leadership structure Sunday’s meeting appears to have set the tone for a more unified, assertive and strategically aligned party-positioned to play a key role in Delta State’s political future.
