Warri City Stadium Set for World-Class Upgrade, Completion in 14 Months – Delta Govt

The Delta State Government has officially handed over the Warri City Stadium remodeling and upgrade project to Peculiar Ultimate Consult Limited, with the contracting firm committing to delivering a world-class facility within 14 months.
The handover ceremony, held last week at the stadium, was led by Onoriode Oborevwori, Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission. He was accompanied by officials from the Supervisory Ministry, the Chairman of Warri South Local Government, and other key stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Oborevwori described the project as a milestone for sports development in Delta State. He emphasized the importance of timely delivery and expressed confidence in the contractor’s ability to meet expectations.
“This stadium upgrade is a game-changer for Delta sports. With the proven track record of Peculiar Ultimate Consult, I have no doubt that this facility will be completed to the highest standards and will serve generations to come,” he said.
He also extended appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for approving and funding the project, urging Warri residents to support the MORE Agenda—the state’s strategic plan for infrastructural development.
“I sincerely thank our governor for his unwavering commitment to sports development. This project is for every Deltan, regardless of age, gender, or background. Sports unite us, and this facility will further strengthen that bond,” he added.
Providing insights into the scope of the upgrade, Adeleke Olariwaju, Managing Director of Peculiar Ultimate Consult Limited, assured the government and the people of Delta State that the project would be completed within schedule.
''This will be a multipurpose stadium featuring two practice pitches, a main bowl, swimming and diving pools, basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, as well as multipurpose halls for other sporting activities,” he noted.
Commissioner for Housing, Godknows Angele, and Warri South Local Government Chairman, Wayinmi Agbateyiniro, praised the state government’s commitment to sports, describing the project as a transformative initiative that would provide young athletes with a platform to hone their skills and compete at a higher level.
The Warri City Stadium, which previously hosted major international tournaments such as the 2006 Women’s African Football Championship and the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup, originally had a 20,000-seater capacity with fully covered stands. The upcoming upgrade is expected to restore its status as a premier sporting venue in Nigeria.
