Rivers State of Emergency: Tenanting the Landlord Says Gabriel Ukuta

The dramatic plot twist that confronted the Political Crisis in Rivers State is akin to what Prof Ibaba S. Ibaba describes as " moping the wet floor while overlooking the leaking roof."
The proclamation of a State of Emergency and consequent suspension of elected officials of the State heralds a bleak future for Nigeria's democracy as a deadly precedent has been set.
The proclamation of the State of Emergency has also made it known that the fate of a group solely lies in the hands of an individual who is not in touch with the needs of his people; rather is focused on self benefits and interests.
The governor of a state is usually the first citizen of that state and also deemed the Landlord of the State. A situation where the State House is unconstitutionally taken from the governor can be likened to " Tenanting the Landlord." This will go down in history as the first of its kind in the polity of Nigeria.
This is a wakeup call to Nigerians the world over to speak up for democracy.
