Ambassador Princewill Binebai, Spokesman, Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, has Thursday responded to recent comments made by Nyesom Wike, former Governor of River State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Wike's remarks were seen as insulting to the Ijaw people, and Princewill has cautioned him against continuing to make such statements.

Princewill on a viral video emphasized that Wike's actions and words are not new, as he has a history of disrespecting the Ijaw people. He noted that Wike's comments are particularly egregious given the significant role the Ijaw people have played in the history and development of River State.

The IYC spokesman highlighted the Ijaw people's contributions to the creation of River State in 1967 and their continued dominance in the state's politics. He cited examples of Ijaw governors, including King Diete-Spiff, Melford Okilo, and Ada George, who have all held office in the state.

Princewill also addressed Wike's claim that he single-handedly made Fubara the governor, pointing out that Wike's own rise to power was facilitated by the Ijaw people, particularly former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience.

The IYC spokesman further emphasized that the Ijaw people will not continue to tolerate Wike's disrespect and insults. He warned that Wike's actions are becoming a threat to democracy and called on President Bola Tinubu to take note of Wike's behavior.

Princewill, however stated that the Ijaw people will rise up to correct the political error that Wike represents, but stressed that this will be done peacefully, without violence.

He reiterated the Ijaw people's dominance in River State and their significant contributions to the Niger Delta region.
