Delta State Approves N275 Billion for 76 Landmark Projects across all Districts

In a historic move to accelerate infrastructure development and economic growth, the Delta State Government has approved a record-breaking N275 billion for 76 transformative projects spanning roads, healthcare, education, and urban renewal across its three senatorial districts. The approval, granted during the first Executive Council (EXCO) meeting of 2025, underscores Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to delivering impactful governance.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, presiding over the EXCO meeting at Government House, Asaba, reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to implement strategic development projects that would enhance connectivity, improve healthcare, and uplift communities.
Addressing the press after the meeting, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, described the approvals as groundbreaking and unparalleled in Delta’s 34-year history. Flanked by other top government officials, he emphasized that these projects would silence critics and prove that Governor Oborevwori is more focused on results than rhetoric.
The projects, which cut across key sectors, include the remodeling of Warri City Stadium, construction of multiple roads such as the Uruagbesa Oria-Abraka Road, Egodo-Ogbeinbene Road, and Benikrukru Township Roads (Phase II), as well as the rehabilitation of the Bomadi-Gbaregolor Road and the Okpanam Road upgrade. Educational investments feature prominently, with approvals for faculty construction at Southern Delta University, Orerokpe campus and the completion of the Library Building at Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara.
A key highlight of the EXCO meeting was the approval of 40% upfront mobilization for contractors without resorting to loans. This, according to Aniagwu, showcases the financial strength and accountability of the Oborevwori administration, ensuring timely project execution. Additionally, long-overdue debts to contractors, including an N8 billion backlog on the Trans-Warri Road and bridges, have been settled, reinforcing investor confidence in the state’s infrastructural vision.
In the health sector, Commissioner Dr. Joseph Onojaeme announced the approval of N1.6 billion for the Contributory Health Scheme, alongside a monthly N100 million allocation to sustain health coverage. Other major health projects include the establishment of a Specialist Hospital in Osubi, a Public Laboratory and Psychiatric Clinic, and the total rehabilitation of the General Hospital in Expan. These initiatives are designed to expand healthcare access and improve medical services across Delta State.
Furthermore, the EXCO granted traditional rulership approvals, endorsing the presentation of staff of office to newly appointed kings, including Obi Chukwunonso Justin Nwoko of Idumuje-Ugboko Kingdom and Obi Ben Azubuike Kanegede of Ibedeni. In a significant cultural recognition, the Olodu community in Aniocha South Local Government Area was officially granted autonomy.
Commissioner Reuben Izeze (Highways and Urban Roads) commended Governor Oborevwori’s dedication to infrastructure development, particularly flood control efforts in Koka Junction and Achalla-Ibusa. He also revealed plans to redesign the Effurun Roundabout Cloverleaf to minimize displacement of property owners. These strategic projects aim to enhance urban planning and mitigate perennial flooding issues.
With these far-reaching approvals, the Oborevwori administration has set a bold precedent for infrastructural expansion and governance efficiency Residents, stakeholders, and investors eagerly anticipate the swift implementation of these projects, which promise to reshape Delta State’s socio-economic landscape for years to come.
