Police operatives arrest Kano anti-graft chair, Muhyi
Operatives of the police have reportedly arrested Muhyi Magaji Rimingado, the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
According to credible sources, the arrest may be connected to the ongoing trial of Bala Muhammed Inuwa, the former Managing Director of Kano Agricultural Supply Company Limited (KASCO), and the move to seize property worth over N2 billion.
The trial, which commenced in November 2023 at the Kano High Court presided over by Justice Hafsat Yahaya, ordered the seizure of property linked to the matter, including money in banks, pending the determination of the suit.
In a surprising move, Bala Muhammed Inuwa filed a suit before another Kano High Court, presided over by Justice Aisha Ya’u, who granted an order mandating the removal of police officers stationed at Limestone Processing Links Ltd., where the confiscated properties were kept. However, the Anti-Corruption Commission expressed surprise that it was not aware of the suit, as the applicant sued the police authority without joining the commission.
The commission immediately filed a stay of execution on the order, asking to be joined in the suit. According to the commission, the police officers protecting the property are attached to the commission, making it the necessary party to the suit, not the police.
In a recent attempt to take over the property worth over N2 billion, which includes trailers, trucks, and minivans, the commission Chairman, Muhyi Rimingado, directed personnel of the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) to move the items to a state government warehouse in Nasarawa GRA from Kumbotso local government area, in line with Section 40 of the Anti-Corruption Law.
Interestingly, Daily Nigerian reports that Muhyi Rimingado was arrested at the Sokoto Governor's Lodge in Abuja, where he went for screening as a Kano governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). However, the reasons behind his arrest remain unclear.
