NAPTIP Rescues Nine Pregnant Women from Baby Factory in Abuja
In a heart-wrenching operation, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued nine pregnant women held captive in a baby factory located in a sprawling estate in Ushafa, within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The rescue mission, which followed a tip-off from a concerned citizen, was confirmed by NAPTIP’s Press Officer, Mr. Vincent Adekoye, in a statement released on Thursday. The women, reportedly recruited through an online platform, were confined in an apartment by a suspected trafficking agent who remains at large.
Adekoye described the grim conditions under which the women were discovered. “They were locked in the apartment, denied freedom, and exploited by the agent who lured them into the situation,” he said.
This raid highlights the persistent threat of human trafficking and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals in Nigeria. For the rescued women, it marks the beginning of a journey to reclaim their freedom and rebuild their lives.
NAPTIP is intensifying efforts to apprehend those responsible for this heinous operation. Meanwhile, the rescued women are receiving medical care, counseling, and support to aid their recovery and reintegration into society.
The agency has called on citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing the role of community awareness in the fight against human trafficking.
This rescue operation serves as both a grim reminder of the dark underbelly of human exploitation and a testament to the power of collective action in combating such injustices.
