Amasuo-ghe 17th Anniversary: Committee unveils the rich cultural heritage

The Planning Committee of Amasuo-ghe 2024, led by Double High Chief George Timiyan, has on Wednesday announced the program of events for the 17th anniversary of the Amasuo-ghe Festival. 

The activities of the Amasuo-ghe, also known as "the time to go home," were unveiled during a press conference at Chief George Timiyan's office in Warri.

PEBNEWS reports that the annual festival is scheduled to take place on December 15th to 22nd at Kokodiagbene Community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri Southwest Local Government Area of Delta State. 

The week-long event promises to be a vibrant celebration of cultural, spiritual, and recreational activities, fostering togetherness and showcasing the rich heritage of the community.

The festival aims to provide a platform for reconnecting with roots and building relationships that strengthen community bonds, as stated by Engineer Johnson Poweide, a representative of the planning committee.

The celebration will kick off with the highly anticipated Tompolo Peace and Unity Football Competition, organized by the Kokodiagbene Committee under the leadership of Comrade Ambassador Pedro Bekenawei.

The schedule is as follows:

"December 15, 2024:  Kokodiagbene  FC vs. Benikrukru FC, December 17, 2024: Oporoza FC vs. Kunukunuma FC, On December 19, 2024, the two losing teams will face off for third place, while the winners will meet in the final match on December 21, 2024, to determine the champion. 

"While the prizes for the top teams include 1st Place: ₦200,000, 2nd Place: ₦150,000, 3rd Place: ₦100,000, and 4th Place: ₦50,000. "Every team will leave with something," said the community chairman, emphasizing inclusivity in the competition.

"On December 20, 2024, the festivities will continue with community entertainment hosted by Dinamic Band from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. This will be followed by a Praise, Worship, and Prayer Session from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, aimed at bringing blessings and spiritual rejuvenation to the community. 

"The Single Connect Program will commence on December 21, 2024, from 11:00am, followed by the Health and Business Improvement Seminar that will take place from 1:00pm to 2:30pm, featuring expert-led discussions on nutrition, wellness, and strategies for enhancing small and medium-sized businesses.

"The final day, December 22, will commence with a community breakfast at 7:30am. This is followed by a joint thanksgiving service at the community playground from 9:00am to 11:30am. This service will celebrate the blessings and progress of the Kokodiagbene community over the past year. 

"By noon, distinguished guests, including traditional ruler and dignitaries, will arrive for the cultural displays. These will feature traditional dances, music, and an official welcome by the Planning Committee Chairman and other leaders. The event will include remarks from the community chairman, spiritual leaders, and the Royal Majesty of the Kingdom, who will offer royal blessings for continued peace and development."

The festivities will conclude with an evening of music, dance, and refreshments, leaving attendees with lasting memories and a renewed sense of community.
