Aged Women, Girls Protest in Abraka Over Rising cases of Kidnappings
On Monday, elderly women and girls staged a dramatic protest in Abraka, Delta State occasioned by increasing wave of kidnappings in the community. The protest, which took place at the popular Abraka junction, caused a major traffic gridlock, leaving motorists and passengers stranded for several hours.
The women, visibly distressed and traumatized by the frequent abductions, expressed their frustration by dancing naked across the streets. They carried placards bearing messages such as “End Kidnapping in Abraka,” “Enough is Enough,” “DPO Must Go,” and “Hardship Is Unbearable.”
The protesters condemned the relentless wave of gunmen attacks and kidnappings in the area, claiming that no day passes without such incidents occurring. They voiced concerns that the constant violence has caused many residents to flee the community, stalling its growth and development.
Accusing the local Police of inaction, the women held the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Fabian Ayameh, and the Abraka Police Station accountable for their failure to effectively address the crisis. The protesters called for immediate action from the authorities to end the kidnappings and restore peace to the area.
