The Chairman of the Delta State Waterways & Land Security Board, Chief Matthew Boro Opudu, alongside members of the board, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun (Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP, FCIA, on Monday, November 18,
 2024.

The  meeting, held at the council Chairman's office in Otor-Udu, aimed to introduce Udu representatives recently appointed to the restructured security board, a key initiative of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to ensure equitable representation across all local government areas in the state.

During the visit, Chief Opudu explained that the restructuring ensures each of the 25 local government areas in Delta State is represented by six board members. This initiative, he said, is designed to strengthen information gathering and enhance collaboration with security agencies to combat crime effectively. He highlighted Governor Oborevwori’s unwavering commitment to crime reduction and emphasized the board’s crucial role in supporting state-wide security efforts.

“The Governor’s zero-tolerance policy on crime has been further reinforced through the restructured board, which prioritizes community-based security initiatives,” Chief Opudu stated. He urged Olorogun Oyibode to introduce the six Udu representatives to all relevant security agencies in the area to foster better co-ordination and ensure seamless collaboration between the board, council, and security operatives.

In response, Olorogun Oyibode lauded the Governor for his inclusive approach in allocating board positions across all local government areas, describing it as a testament to his dedication to equity and fairness. The Council Chairman expressed confidence in the new structure, noting that it provides an opportunity for the board members to play a more participatory role in Udu’s local security framework.

“This initiative is unprecedented and a welcome development,” Olorogun Oyibode remarked. “The presence of the board in Udu will undoubtedly enhance our ability to monitor and address crime within the kingdom. We will fully support the board’s efforts and ensure local intelligence is effectively channeled through Udu’s coordinator, Mr. Jerry Erhuwvujefe, to the board’s leadership.”

Olorogun Oyibode further urged the board members to remain vigilant and proactive, emphasizing the importance of gathering and relaying critical information to achieve a safer Udu Local Government Area. He reiterated the Council’s commitment to fostering a strong partnership with the board to fulfill the Governor’s vision of a crime-free Delta State.

This strengthened collaboration between the Udu Local Government Council and the Delta State Waterways & Land Security Board underscores a shared determination to uphold safety and security across Delta State.
