Ganduje donates N20m to 5 slain officers as Kano police investigates auto crash
The National Chairman, All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje has on Saturday donated the sum of N20 million to the families of five slain police officers and 11 others who sustained injuries in a ghastly motor accident in Kano State.
This was coming as the Kano State Police Command said it is launching investigation into the incident that claimed the lives of the officers.
The officers were said to be on their way returning from national assignment where they partake in the Edo State governorship election held last Saturday.
Ganduje who spoke at Bichi Central Mosque, while offering prayers for the deceased police officers described the incident as a sad moment for the police force, himself and the nation.
He said the sum of N2 million each will be donated to the families of the five deceased officers' while N1 million each to the injured officers.
"I decided to personally come down to Bichi because of the enormity of the death, and because the officers died in active service," Ganduje said.
Similarly, the Chairman House Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, who accompanied Ganduje, also extended his condolences and prayed for the repose of the departed souls.
In a related development, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Garba said an investigation into the accident which claimed the lives of the personnel is underway to determine cause of the accident in order to forestall future occurrence.
The Commissioner in a statement issued by the command's spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna after visit to the injured officers on their sick bed in Bichi General hospital, emphasized that the safety and well being of the officers were paramount.
Recall that the police officers attached to the Kano State Police Command were said to be on their way returning from official assignment at the Edo governorship election when they had an accident at Karfi village, Kura Local Government area of Kano State.
