Few hours to Edo State Governorship elections, the Governorship candidate under Labour Party, Olamide Osaigbovo Akpata said he has not stepped down to support the People Democratic Party(PDP) candidate for the tomorrow's elections saying, he is still very much in the race.

In a press statement signed and made available to newsmen by Olamide Osaigbovo Akpata himself  said the rumour  making the rounds is that he  has stepped down  is not true. According to him, this falsehood is an illustrative of the evil machinations of those who have held the  state captive for a quarter of a century and demonstrated  the shallowness that has characterised their Governance style. He said, it is an act of madness for him to step down in day for the  election when he had got overwhelming support  from his supporters.

His words:"The notion that I would step down on the eve of the election, after the overwhelming support received from the good people of our state, borders on delusion. This pathetic attempt at deception is so amateurish that the "Oluwole" forgers could not even get the date right, leaving "July 29, 2024" on their fraudulent document. Such incompetence would be laughable if it were not so sinister in its intent".

He said, for people to have disseminated such false information is a  demonstration of their fear of being defeated in the race come tomorrow saying, such act is evil in all standards.

His words: "To the perpetrators of this fraud: your desperate tactics only expose your fear. You claim I am a mere "spoiler." yet, you resort to such underhanded methods? Your actions betray your panic at our unstoppable momentum".

While calling on all his supporters to remain  steadfast  and all citizens yearning for change to stand  firm not be  be swayed by these desperate ploys as his vision is  unshakeable and remains clear and unwavering, he said those  perpetrated  his step  down falsehood  would face the wrath of the  law.

His words: "To our steadfast supporters and all citizens yearning for change: stand firm. Do not be swayed by these desperate ploys. Our resolve is unshakeable, our cause is just, and our vision for our great state remains clear and unwavering.

"To the architects of this forgery: I will not rest until I uncover every individual involved in this criminal act. You will face the full force of the law, and justice will be served.

He therefore called on all the people of Edo State to disregard this last kick of a dying horse and  go out and exercise their franchise tomorrow as with cooperation, the state would overcome   underhanded tactics and usher in the transformative leadership in  state that richly deserved.

He also urged Journalists and media outlets to take particular note of such situations  so that they would not only report the facts accurately but diligently verify information before publication as the integrity of the state democratic  process depends on responsible Journalist, especially in these crucial hours before the election.
