INEC visits Gbaramatu in W/SW, begins processes of wards/units' delineation

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has Wednesday visited Oporoza, the traditional Headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area and  began a fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units in Warri Federal Constituency. 

PEBNEWS earlier reported that INEC has made a move to implement the ruling of the Supreme Court, ordering the electoral umpire to reassign wards and polling units across the three Local Government Areas in Warri.

Addressing the INEC officials in his Palace, His Royal Majesty, Oboro-Gbaraun II, Aketekpe, Agadagba, the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, urged the team to discharge their duties diligently and work according to the constitution.

"I have given you go-ahead. You can go and do your work accordingly and perfectly as it is supposed to be, "he stated.

Responding, Ibrahim Ahmed, Special Data Analyst, INEC National Headquarters, Abuja, who led the delegation said: "We assure you that we're going to do this work diligently, and according to the constitution, following the guidelines."

Speaking with PEBNEWS Correspondent, Buhari Ibrahim, from the Electoral Operations Department, INEC Headquarters, Abuja, said they will take the   co-ordinate of every locality and demarcate the boundaries just as he said, INEC will decide on wards and polling units after this stage.

In his words, "It's all about identification and beautification of the communities. It's going to be credible based on findings and according to the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

"We will identify the localities and beautify them, then we're going to take the co-ordinate of each and every locality and demarcate the boundaries. After that, the Commission will decide on the next stage," Ibrahim stated.
