Senator Dickson Calls for Support for Rivers State Governor
Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, Senator Representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District has called on the government and people of Rivers State to support Governor Siminilaye Fubara to deliver his duty as Governor of the state.
Senator Dickson made the call when he led a delegation of Royal Father's, elders and political leaders of Bayelsa State on a courtesy visit to the Governor of Rivers State at the state Government House in Port Harcourt.
The lawmaker said the visit was one of solidarity with Governor Fubara and Rivers people who have shown maturity in the face of the political crisis for stability and development to thrive.
While he lauded the calm demeanor and purposeful leadership of the governor that has brought about peace in the state, Senator Dickson in solidarity with leaders and elders of Bayelsa state urged the Rivers State Governor to continue to be focus and show tolerance and restraint.
The lawmaker also urged Governor Fubara and the Bayelsa State Governor to resolve the issues between the both states in a rational way to foster peace, unity, security and stability in the region.
He added that if there is peace and development in Rivers State, the people of Bayelsa State will benefit, and if there is crisis in the State, his people will suffer as well, and called on all sides to give peace a chance.
In his remarks, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara thanked Senator Dickson and his delegation for coming to solidarize with him and his government, he described it as a family reunion for the purpose of good governance.
Governor Fubara noted that
there is no complete Rivers State without Bayelsa State and vice versa, which demands that they continue to work together for development.
While he appreciated the role of the traditional rulers, elders and political leaders of Bayelsa state in resolving the issues in Rivers State, he urged Senator Dickson and his delegation to continue to play their big brotherly role by calling in to point out areas where they may err.
Governor Fubara said he took the initiative of going to see Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State because he wanted an end to the toxic relationship that existed in the past administrations.
He maintained that he wants Rivers and Bayelsa State to work together as brothers to ensure the development of the sister states and the growth of the economy.
Speaking on the political crisis in Rivers state, the Governor said he had acted like the big brother in the crisis, not interested in destroying the 'house', so that meaningful development can continue to be engendered in the State while securing tenable political relationship.
