Land dispute: Group rejects purported acquisition of Aladja land, handover to Ogbe-Ijoh by Delta Govt
Aladja Renaissance Group today rejected the purported acquisition of Aladja Community land and handover to Ogbe-Ijoh people by the Delta State Government.
"We reject in its entirety the purported acquisition. "The group said, "We perceived our land is being surreptitiously acquired for Ogbe-Ijoh and the Warri South West local government council."
This is contained in a statement signed by the group's Convener and Secretary Comrade Sylvester Itebu and Miss Sheila Eriavwen and made available to newsmen.
The group described the purported Acquisition of land as "hasty wholesale acquisition" of Aladja Community land which same was communicated to in the media by the State Government, SSG, Mr. Kingsley Emu.
"This governments proferred solution; the hasty wholesale acquisition of our farmsteads/famlands mischievously disputed by Ogbe-Ijoh has just done that.
"In our view a State Exco's resolution in this matter represents a majority perception and a superior near true position of the dispute, rather than this hastily proffered acquisition, that shall deprive our people of their only means of livelihood.
"Ogbe-Ijoh has nothng to loose here. They are not farmers. They are just out to grab lands. The biblical wisdom of king Solomon is apt. here."
The group also advised that a thorough study of all past panel’s reports, especially the Justice Nwulu's and late Prof. Abednigo Ekoko Panel’s reports and Exco adopted resolutions which implementation was aborted by the then Surveyor General.
The group urged the Delta State to dispense justice without fear or favour devoid of political considerations and some mundane personal interests in the agelong land dispute between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh Communities in Udu and Warri South-West Local Government Areas respectively.
"Delta State Government should be bold enough and call a spade a spade."
"Delta State government should tell the Ogbe-Ijohs the much Aladja farmsteads and farmlands they have annexed forcefully is enough."
According to the group,"There are bold reliefs, natural features on both sides of the Aladja / Ogbe-Ijoh road that could be connected to serve as boundary between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities."
