Police arrest town union official for vandalising Abia Govt oil estate

The Zone 9 Police Command, Umuahia, has confirmed the arrest of the President General of Okon Aku community in Ohafia council area, Abia state, Mr. Mecha Ume, over alleged vandalism of equipment at a palm oil estate located in the community belonging to the state government.

Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 9, Umuahia, DSP Bruno Iheanetu, disclosed that Mecha and another suspect who was arrested last Saturday, allegedly  fingered the community President General in the matter.

PEBNEWS can report that three suspects were earlier arrested by soldiers attached to the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, while loading the vandalized equipment into a waiting truck inside the palm estate.

They were handed over to the Zone 9 Police Command for further investigation.

The PPRO further stated that investigation is still ongoing.

The palm oil estate was established in 1961, by the Eastern Region Estate Investment, EREI, during  the regime of Dr. Michael Okpara as the Premier of the defunct Eastern Region.
