Jimson emerge President as Delsu holds election
A 400 level pharmacy student of the Delta State University, Delsu, Abraka in Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State, Comrade Matthias Jimson have emerged as President of the Student Union Government, SUG in an election many adjudged to be peaceful and fair.Our Correspondent who was at the Delsu Campus 3 in Abraka Community reports that the students came out enmass to cast their votes for their choice candidates.The students voted manually by their various departments.Jimson and other members of the new executive are yet to be officially declared winner of the election by the Delsu Management at the time of this report.It was learnt that no one contested the Presidential position with Jimson who is quietly waiting for his declaration and subsequent inauguration as the brand new SUG President of Delta State University.Earlier in a chat with Our Correspondent, the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Maxwell Iwegbue urged the new SUG President to run in an all inclusive government to succeed in his administration.He explained that the students voted manually during the election the institution had issues with its online system.Prof. Iwegbue noted that Delsu service provider was upgrading its site hence, the institution resorted to manual voting.Prof. Iwegbue also expressed that Delsu will develop a new App which it will use for the conduct of the next elections.Delsu Outgoing SUG President, Comrade Okupa Caleb Ogaga advised the new SUG President to follow the road map as well as work towards the completion of projects that are yet to be completed.While noting that he had so many challenges during his reign as SUG President, Comrade Ogaga also said he recorded so huge successes as well.He commended the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Maxwell Iwegbue for his fatherly role to his administration and students in Delta State University, Delsu, Abraka.According to him, "Dean of student has been one of the best. Though, we have our disagreements but he is one of the best. We were able to succeed with his influence."The Delta State Chairman of the Nigerian Association of Students,NANS/JCC, Comrade Majemite Precious also urged the new Delsu SUG President to work in line with its constitution to succeed. He added that he should also work with the Delsu Management and not only to stand for the interests of students for his government to have soft landing. He warned that failure to wish will amount to fight and war which will not be too good for him stressing, "always dialogue."While noting that the students trooped out enmass to vote, Comrade Precious said he did not observe any irregularities during the SUG election.
